LineageOS Now Supports the OnePlus 12, Moto G Stylus 5G, and 8 More Phones

LineageOS is (probably) the most popular Android custom ROM, bringing a stock-like experience and longer support to many phones and tablets. The project has recently added official support for 10 more phones, including the OnePlus 12 and original Moto G Stylus 5G.

The LineageOS project has kept a low profile lately—the last blog post was in December 2024—but development is still fairly active. Since the start of August, 10 new devices have been added to the official build list:

The OnePlus 12 might be the most exciting addition this time around, which was released in 2023 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Many other OnePlus devices were already supported, going as far back as the OnePlus 5 from 2017. More Xiaomi and Motorola phones are always appreciated, too. According to Motorola’s own update tracker, the 2021 Stylus is now fully unsupported, and the 2022 Stylus was never upgraded past Android 13.

The Vsmart Joy 3 and Vsmart Joy 3+ are two unusual additions, at least for those of us outside of southern Asia. Those are mid-range smartphones from VinSmart, a company based in Vietnam. The LineageOS wiki says there aren’t even official methods of unlocking the bootloader for those phones, so you’re on your own for that part of the installation process.

All these devices now have official LineageOS 22.2 builds, based on Android 15 QPR 2. Google released Android 16 for its own phones back in June, and device makers like Samsung and OnePlus are in the process of rolling out the same update. It might be a few more months before LineageOS makes the same transition.

If you’ve never used it before, LineageOS a great way to get a clean and secure Android experience on many phones and tablets, with Google apps like the Play Store as an optional addition. It has also been a popular way to keep old devices functional, as LineageOS updates sometimes continue long after the original manufacturer has given up.
