Samsung One UI 8.5 Update Rolls Out

Samsung has begun rolling out One UI 8 for its devices, starting with the Galaxy S25 series. While this update is making its way to users, leaks have already surfaced detailing the next iteration: One UI 8.5.

First Look at One UI 8.5

The next major update to Samsung’s software is expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 in early 2026. On Friday, a leak offered the first glimpse at One UI 8.5, revealing several design changes and new features. User wr3cckl3ss1 on X/Twitter shared screenshots from an early build (build number S938BXXU5CYIA) running on the Galaxy S25 Ultra (via SammyGuru).

Revamped Quick Settings

One of the most noticeable changes is the Quick Settings menu, which now features resizable tiles for greater customization. A brand-new “Add a control” button appears at the bottom of the Quick Settings sheet, making it easier to resize or rearrange icons. These updates are consistent with recent improvements introduced in Android 16 QPR1 for Pixel devices.

Updated My Files and Phone Apps

The leak also highlights changes in Samsung’s native apps. The My Files app now has circular icons for file categories, and the search bar has moved to the bottom of the screen for easier access.

Similarly, the Phone app has received a design refresh. The floating pill-shaped navigation bar now includes buttons for Keypad, Recents, and Contacts menus. Additionally, a Direct Voicemail option has been added to the settings menu.

Security Updates Included

Screenshots of One UI 8.5 also reveal that the update will include the September 2025 security patch and the October 2025 Google Play system update, ensuring that devices remain secure while gaining new features.

What to Expect

These are likely not the last leaks for One UI 8.5. As more users gain access to early builds, additional features and design changes may surface. Some of the leaked visuals suggest inspiration from Apple’s iOS 26, though the final version of One UI 8.5 may differ.

Whether these changes will improve user experience or feel too inspired by other platforms remains to be seen. For now, One UI 8.5 looks set to bring enhanced customization, updated apps, and improved security to Samsung devices.
