Mac Studio M3 MacOS Tahoe Bug – What’s Happening
Apple’s lineup of desktop computers currently includes four models: the Mac Mini, the iMac, the Mac Studio, and the Mac Pro. Among these, the Mac Mini is the smallest and most affordable, while the iMac offers a complete all-in-one experience with an integrated screen that reduces the need for additional accessories. For users seeking maximum power and willing to pay a premium, the Mac Studio provides exceptional performance, even rivaling the Mac Pro in certain areas.
The latest version of the Mac Studio comes equipped with the ultra M3 chip, one of Apple’s most powerful processors to date. Yet, despite its cutting-edge hardware, the Mac Studio is not immune to bugs. Currently, owners of this model are unable to install macOS Tahoe, the latest version of Apple’s operating system.
Installation Fails on Mac Studio M3 Ultra
If you try to update a Mac Studio M3 Ultra to macOS Tahoe, you may encounter a frustrating problem. While downloading the update proceeds without issue, the installation fails in the final moments. An error appears, preventing completion. Afterward, the computer restarts, but it remains on the previous operating system — macOS Sequoia 15.7 — instead of updating to Tahoe.
According to multiple user reports and independent sources, the issue appears to be related to the Neural Engine. The installation process seems to require a hardware register linked to this engine, but the procedure consistently fails, causing the update to abort.
A Bug Unique to the Mac Studio M3 Ultra
Interestingly, this bug affects only the Mac Studio M3 Ultra. All other Macs, including older Intel-based models, have successfully installed macOS Tahoe without encountering this issue. While it is a hardware-specific problem, it has been widely reported by early adopters of the new Mac Studio.
Apple Has Yet to Respond
As of now, Apple has not issued an official statement regarding this installation bug. Given the severity of the issue for Mac Studio M3 Ultra users, it is expected that the company will release a fix in the near future. Until then, affected users will need to continue using macOS Sequoia 15.7 or postpone upgrading.
